Hi,
We are planning to sail from NW Australia across the Indian Ocean, via Christmas and Cocos Islands, then to the Maldives prior to heading up to the Red Sea.
This will be in 2007, can anyone offer experience on the VERY best months to do these very long passages.

This was precisely my plan in 2002, Darwin to Christmas Island then Cocos Keeling. However, due to engine overheating I elected to fetch Bali - nearer than Christmas Island from my position. The reason I am posting, is to forwarn anyone who makes an unplanned visit to Bali, that cruising permits are required - and must be obtained in advance. I am very lucky to have gotten out of Bali without significant expense and possible incarceration, even though I arrived there due to an emergency. No such thing as international maritime agreements permitting sailors time to make repairs. You receive only what you are prepared to pay for something called "consideration". As often happens my initial plans were written in sand. Too late to resume my passage to the Australian islands, I ended up in Johor Baru, Malaysia, followed by Thailand, the Maldives, Chagos, Mayotte, Madagascar and So. Africa. On and on.
